New Executive Order on Substance Use Disorder

On Jan. 29, President Trump issued a new Executive Order (EO) “Addressing Addiction Through the Great American Recovery Initiative.” The EO launches the “White House Great American Recovery Initiative,” which will help coordinate substance use disorder (SUD) treatment and recovery work across the government and the private sector. The Initiative may convene public hearings, meetings, roundtables and other events to gather insight from subject matter experts. Additionally, the Initiative may make recommendations for coordinating a Federal response to SUD; advise on implementation of prevention, intervention, treatment and recovery programs; advise on directing grants; and consult with states, tribal nations, local jurisdictions and a variety of other stakeholders to support strategies for treatment and recovery.
